An elegant pair of French Louis XVI style giltwood armchairs, beautifully proportioned and richly carved in the classical tradition. Each chair features a tall, gently arched upholstered back framed by finely carved giltwood, surmounted by delicate finials and accented with trailing floral and foliate decoration. The open arms terminate in carved scrolls and are supported by graceful curved uprights embellished with acanthus detailing.
The generous upholstered seats are raised on classic tapered and fluted legs, while carved rosettes, beading and leaf-and-berry ornament enrich the seat rails and frame. The chairs are upholstered in a golden-brown velvet, including padded armrests, creating a warm tonal contrast against the gilded finish.
