One of the most celebrated illusionistic sculptures of the nineteenth century, The Veiled Virgin by Italian sculptor Giovanni Strazza (1818–1875) is renowned for its astonishing depiction of a translucent veil draped across the Virgin Mary’s face. Sculpted circa 1850, the original marble masterpiece, now housed at the Presentation Convent Museum in St. John’s, Newfoundland, remains one of the most admired examples of technical virtuosity in Western sculpture.

This museum edition reproduction was produced by the “Grand Palais RMN” Ateliers workshop in France, the casting and reproduction division of France’s national museum organization. Executed in a finely detailed marble-composite material with hollow-cast construction, it faithfully captures the extraordinary folds of the veil, serene expression, and remarkable realism that made Strazza’s original work famous.
