A beautiful, Large, Napoleon III era (circa 1860), carved giltwood parclose mirror, having all five of its original mirror panels, as is evident by the desirable “sparkle” (caused by the slow oxidation of the silver that was originally used to make these very old mirrors). A finely carved and beaded border surrounds the large central mirror, which sits surrounded on all sides by smaller panels. The whole is framed with a carved, twisted ribbon, richly decorated with medallions, shells, acanthus leaves, and garlands of flowers, and topped with a fretwork shell. Each corner displays striking pierced designs that connect the inner and outer frame.
