A truly captivating piece from Paris; a 19th-century mahogany Biedermeier style “scriban” (a type of secretary desk). This scriban combines refined aesthetics with practical storage, while the hidden compartments, of which we’ve so far discovered seven, add an air of mystery and sophistication, making this piece a functional yet decorative focal point.

The lower portion features four drawers, each adorned with brass eagle head ring pulls. The upper drawer can be pulled out and the drawer front is hinged at the bottom, allowing it to fold open to create an extended writing surface, complete with small drawers at the back. The upper portion of this piece is a beautifully detailed, inward-curving architectural feature, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship. At its center is a domed niche with a striped arch, using blackened wood accents to create a striking contrast against the rich mahogany. The niche houses several small drawers, with additional open shelves in the middle, providing functional storage for smaller valuables, letters, writing supplies, etc.
