A French Louis XV style sofa, or canapé, dating to the late 19th century. It features original hand-woven cane seat and back in excellent condition, fitted removable cushions, a shaped crest rail, and scrolled arms – all supported on eight legs joined by an intersecting stretcher. The hand-carved oak frame is joined without the use of any screws or nails – the original pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery holds strong, demonstrating the enduring quality of traditional French craftsmanship.
