An antique French Louis XV style secretary, circa 1880-1900, featuring a shaped bombe case in richly figured rosewood and mahogany with floral marquetry throughout. The fall-front opens to reveal a fitted writing interior with shelves and small drawers, above a graduated arrangement of drawers below. Finished with a molded marble top and finely cast gilt bronze mounts, including escutcheons, drawer pulls, and sabots. This form – traditionally known in France as a secrétaire à abattant – was prized for combining compact storage with an elegant writing surface.
