A late 19th-century, two-tier, marquetry occasional table, bearing the signature “Gallé” on the surface. The shaped top is inlaid with floral and butterfly motifs arranged as a stylized natural landscape, reflecting the naturalist design language that would later inform the Art Nouveau movement. A matching marquetry undertier echoes the landscape composition below, and the table retains a warm, aged patina with light wear consistent with age.
Émile Gallé (1846–1904) was a French designer and master craftsman based in Nancy, best known for his pioneering work in glass and his later contributions to Art Nouveau furniture. His work drew heavily on nature and helped define the artistic language that would fully emerge in the Art Nouveau movement at the end of the 19th century.
