A French Empire style “secrétaire à abattant”, crafted in richly figured mahogany with a polished finish that highlights it’s depth. The drop-front opens to reveal a fitted interior with a tooled green leather writing surface, a series of small dovetailed drawers, and an open central compartment. The exterior is detailed with restrained foliate marquetry and retains its original gilt-bronze ring pulls and escutcheons. Two full-width drawers below provide ample storage, all set on a sturdy plinth base with shaped bracket feet. Crafted in the early 20th century.
Pieces like this were commonly found in well-appointed studies or salons of European homes during the “Belle Époque” era, valued for both their utility and refined aesthetic.
