Circa 1870 and in exceptional condition, this French, Serpentine-front, Boulle, fold-over games table is a wonderful example of something one might have found in the 19th Century in fine homes throughout Europe, and across the world. The intricate, inlaid, engraved brass stringing with foliate and geometric designs still lays perfectly – this is very rare, and a sign of exceptional craftsmanship. The tortoiseshell is faux, but perfectly replicated. It has a pivoting top that turns perpendicular to its original position, then opens on hinges to reveal a leather games top with very little wear. Beneath this is a shaped apron with boulle panels, all supported on cabriole legs that end in sabots. The Ormolu mounts and hardware are all original.
