A matched set of eight English balloon-back dining chairs in solid rosewood, dating to around 1860. Six chairs feature subtly shaped front rails, while two show minor variation with squared front seats—evidence of handmade construction rather than later factory production. Each chair displays carved scrollwork to the backrest and fine turned front legs with reeded details.
The rosewood shows deep grain and color, with excellent patina throughout. Traditional joinery and hand-carved ornamentation point to mid-19th century craftsmanship. Recently reupholstered in a pale fabric with a coral-branch motif.
