An elegant French Louis XV-style secretary chest, richly veneered in contrasting woods including rosewood, kingwood, satinwood and other light fruitwoods, arranged in elaborate floral and geometric marquetry. Gilt-bronze mounts and a marble top complete the exterior. The fall-front opens to reveal a finely fitted bird’s eye maple interior with an ebonized surround, four small marquetry drawers and the original felt writing surface. Likely made in France during the reign of Napoleon III (circa 1860–1880).
