A French Empire period flame mahogany gueridon or center table, from the mid-19th century. The remarkable central pedestal rises from a tripodal base, terminating in carved paw feet. The internal construction, visible beneath the marble, shows hand-cut boards and joinery, and very early machine-made screws – all consistent with mid 19th century workmanship. The marble top is almost certainly a later replacement, and the table base has been professionally refinished.
