An exceptional quality 19th century Louis XVI transitional breakfront commode. Beautifully executed with refined proportions and masterful parquetry work, the commode features a graceful breakfront façade with three drawers across the upper register and three larger drawers below, each decorated with geometric parquetry panels framed by kingwood and satinwood banding. The central section is slightly projected, creating a subtle architectural rhythm characteristic of the Transition period, when the curves of Louis XV began to merge with the symmetry of Louis XVI design. Each drawer is fitted with finely cast ormolu escutcheons and ring pulls, while gilt bronze mounts accent the corners and legs, including foliate sabots that highlight the cabriole legs. The piece retains its shaped white Carrara marble top, molded to follow the breakfront contour, and is further enriched by a gilt central apron mount.
