An impressive early 19th-century English mahogany breakfront bookcase, featuring four glazed upper doors with elegant Gothic-arched astragals above four panelled cupboard doors. The richly figured mahogany has a beautiful natural chatoyance, with flame-like patterns that seem to shift, deepen and brighten as the piece is viewed from different angles or under changing light. The surface retains attractive variation, age-related wear and a pleasing depth of colour throughout.

Despite its architectural presence, the bookcase is surprisingly restrained in scale. Measuring only 6’10” in height and 19.5″ deep, it provides substantial storage without overwhelming a room. Its relatively modest height and shallow depth make it unusually adaptable for an English breakfront of this period, allowing it to sit comfortably in anything from an office, to a condo dining or living room, to a formal library.
