A monumental 10′ × 20′ Persian Kashan hand-knotted wool carpet, woven in the mid-20th century with an exceptionally dense all-over Afshan floral design, and framed by richly detailed floral borders, with a woven signature cartouche at one end.
This rug contains over 7 million individually tied knots. A rug of this scale would have required a large loom and a team of roughly four skilled weavers, with about 12-14 months of sustained daily weaving before finishing and preparation.
The tonal change visible through the field is authentic abrash: the weavers continued using wool from a different dye lot, creating a natural shift in colour that records the handmade process rather than damage or fading. The carpet remains in good overall condition, with excellent-quality wool, dense pile, and the appealing slight waviness expected in a handmade carpet of this size.
