A carved and polychrome-decorated Venetian Blackamoor figure floor lamp, from the mid-20th century. The surface is richly finished with hand-painted detailing and gilding, including stylized feathered garments and a turbaned headpiece. The carving is bold and theatrical, with exaggerated proportions typical of decorative revival examples produced for grand interiors during the 1950s and 1960s. Electrified for use as a floor lamp, and mounted on a pedestal base.
Blackamoor figures of this type were widely produced in Italy during the 20th century, drawing on earlier Venetian decorative traditions. This example reflects the Hollywood Regency and Mediterranean revival taste popular in North America during the mid-century period.
