This French cheval mirror is likely an early Empire period piece, dating to approximately c. 1800–1820, though a slightly later manufacture in the early to mid-19th century cannot be ruled out. It is constructed from solid mahogany and fitted with finely cast gilt bronze mounts, including classical wreaths, anthemion motifs, and a decorative crest with winged figures. The oval mirror plate is framed by a molded mahogany surround with a gilt-bronze liner and pivots within its stand, a form commonly associated with dressing rooms and private apartments of the period. The mirror retains the original mercury glass with foxing and oxidation consistent with age.
