A late 19th century English porter’s chair, upholstered in its original deep green hand-dyed leather with rich patina and deep button tufting. The high-back canopy form—designed to retain heat and provide privacy—features solid mahogany framing with scrolled cresting and decorative brass nailhead trim. Raised on tapered mahogany legs with original brass casters.

Note on Construction & Dating:
The turned legs and hand-tufted leather indicate a date c. 1880–1890, and the use of horsehair-stuffed upholstery and tacks is consistent with late Victorian craftsmanship. The canopy design was traditionally used in entrance halls, allowing porters to sit in comfort while waiting to admit guests.
