A remarkable Spanish Art Nouveau period mirror by Barcelona- based designer Joan Busquets, the frame in rosewood, fruitwood and mahogany, and carved in a stunning array of flowers, vines, leaves etc and with gilded accents throughout.
Busquets trained in Barcelona at the Llotja School and in his family’s upholstery and decorating workshop. Along with Gaspar Homar, he became one of the most prolific cabinetmakers of Catalan Art Nouveau, inspired by the fluid and organic forms of French Art Nouveau. In 1900 he contributed to the Sobrinos de Juan Batlló stand at the Paris World Exhibition where his creations reflected an interest in the work of the progressive French designers Louis Majorelle and Hector Guimard.
