Exceptional French bookcase by ‘Louis Bontemps, Paris,’ (active in the late 19th Century) constructed of bois-de-violette, amarante, and satiné, with two coromandel Chinese lacquer doors and one centre door, with adjustable shelving. The back of the carcass is stamped twice “L. BONTEMPS/PARIS”. Pieces by this important cabinetmaker are rare and when they do come available at important auction houses they command high prices. Late 19th Century. 67″ Wide x 18.5″ Deep x 84.5” Tall.
