This 19th century oak coffee table, converted from a desk*, would have belonged to a wealthy professional or scholar, serving as a refined workspace in a study or private library, where its richly detailed craftsmanship reflected the owner’s status, intellect, and appreciation for fine materials. It features a finely hand-tooled leather top with an intricate central medallion depicting a warrior’s profile, surrounded by scrolling foliage and floral motifs. The apron is adorned with deeply carved geometric and foliate patterns, while the substantial scroll-shaped legs provide a bold, architectural foundation. Three drawers with matching carved fronts offer storage, and a later-added glass top protects the original leather surface.
*Original legs with iron stretcher can be swapped back to be used as a desk again.
