Exceptional French cabinet with carved elephants & inset Japanese lacquer panels. Circa 1880. This piece is one of the best examples of French made ‘Chinoiserie’ of its kind. Produced in Paris around late 19th Century into the early 20th, famous cabinet makers like Gabriel Viardot produced cabinets of this quality. Tinted maple carved in relief and hollow, engraved on the sides, inlays of mother-of-pearl. bronze mounts (handle pulls, for example) and topped with white marble. If you’re a collector of only the finest art or furniture objects ever made – then this piece is for you. This piece is signed. Pieces of this quality are currently displayed in museums in Paris.
