A very rare mahogany-cased grandfather clock by London maker Thomas Grignion ( 1713 – 1784 ).  The eight-day movement striking on the hour and with ‘silent / striking’ mechanism. Arched brass dial with separate silvered brass chapter ring, seconds ring and date aperture.  The fine mahogany case  with long trunk door veneered with flame mahogany and with block shaped top. The panelled base with shaped double apron and bracket feet, the  hood with reeded canted corners and concave moulded pediment with brass finials.  C. 1770
